Francesco Barbabella, Ph.D., is a social scientist working as Research Fellow at the Centre for Socio-Economic Research on Ageing of the National Institute of Health and Science on Ageing (INRCA) in Ancona (Italy) and Associate Researcher at the Centre for Ageing and Life-Course Studies of the Linnaeus University in Växjö (Sweden).
He co-authored over 40 scientific publications and over 60 presentations at conferences in Europe and beyond, including various policy reports and briefs published by the World Health Organization (WHO) Europe and the European Commission. He had been invited as speaker, chair and panellist in events organised by WHO. He also served as a member of advisory boards of international projects and evaluation committees.
His main research interests include: the understanding of policy, institutional and services changes in the progressive digitalisation of healthcare and self-care solutions; the investigation of experience, expectations and patterns of use of both traditional care services and new digital health solutions by patients with chronic diseases and older people with complex health needs; the policy analysis and evaluation of evolution trends of long-term care (LTC) systems and social policies for older people; the impact of migrant care workers and marketisation of care on current welfare systems.
