Approches thérapeutiques et diagnostics innovants pour les maladies neurodégénératives |
Dr Mark Ross is an Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, with a particular interest in the influence of exercise on age-related inflammatory conditions.
Dr Ross’ work has centred around how single bouts of exercise, as well as long-term physical activity, can manipulate our immune cells (specifically monocytes and lymphocytes) to promote tissue repair as well as reduce inflammation, in advancing age. Recent work has led this towards both muscle atrophy disorders (such as age-related sarcopenia), and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Future plans involve investigating the age-related infiltration of immune cells into organs and peripheral tissues, and how regular exercise may modulate the repair-inflammatory balance of these cells to improve human health and function.
