Sue Hawkins

Over the last 5 years Sue has been developing Dorset’s Malnutrition Programme – a new integrated approach across health and social care to improve nutritional care for adults across Dorset. The programme is an excellent example of joint working by health and social care partners . It involves all front line staff screening for malnutrition, inputting the data into a joint electronic system and following agreed care pathways.  These pathways ensure the sharing of data between partners, and if completed correctly ensure no service user can slip through the net and not be cared for appropriately.  The Dorset Malnutrition Programme received a Highly Commended Health Service Journal Award in the ‘improving value in the care of frail older patients’ category.

Sue was chair of the National Association of Care Catering  (NACC) 2005 – 2007.  Member of the Malnutrition Task Force and The Caroline Walker Trust Eating Well Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities expert working groups.

She  was awarded the: NACC Chairman’s Award: Cost Sector Public Service Award: Public Sector Caterer Catey Award for her work within the nutritional care sector.

Sue was co-author of the NACC publication “How to provide good nutritional care and comply with CQC’s fundamental standards”
